Everyone knows how tough things have been due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has had a huge impact on various industries worldwide, but the entertainment industry has been hit in some major ways. Read on to learn more about COVID-19’s impact on the entertainment industry. It’ll give you more perspective on just how much the pandemic changed for the entertainment industry as a whole.

Concerts and Live Performances

Concerts and live performances have been pretty much completely shut down due to the pandemic. Many music artists are now struggling to make a living due to how little money they actually receive from streaming music services. It’s unclear when the concert industry will return to normal, but most experts expect the pandemic’s ramifications to cause concert venues to shut down in many places. Venues might shutter their doors forever, and some musicians will likely struggle to keep things going.

The Movie Industry

The movie industry has had a tough time as well due to not being able to make much money from movie theaters any longer. Many big films premiered on streaming services or on-demand cable services instead of going to the movie theaters. There are still many theaters shut down in America, and it might be some time before the movie theater industry is back to normal. Also, some films and TV shows have been postponed or canceled due to the pandemic, such as Netflix’s final season of GLOW.

The Video Game Industry

The video game industry has shifted to doing remote work, and many teams have had a tough time adjusting. Some of the biggest upcoming releases in video games had to be pushed back due to the complications of trying to get things finished while working remotely. That being said, video game sales are doing great, and both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are selling out everywhere. Combine this with strong PC gaming sales and Nintendo Switch sales, and you can see that many people are spending the pandemic playing video games to pass the time.

Sports

Sports might not be considered to be in this category by some, but they are something that people turn to for entertainment. The MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL all managed to come back, but things aren’t exactly business as usual. Professional wrestling events are being held and televised on closed-set locations or with limited fans in attendance with social distancing measures in place. Time will tell how long it will take for arenas to be packed with fans of sports once more.
